There is just something so soothing about a blue quilt (I'm not really a blue fan).  

This quilt just makes me smile.

Negative of quilting for the public....

Yep there is one... sometimes you have to work on an Auburn Quilt!  

The good news, just like any quilt there is a story behind this one and a young man waiting to love it.

This quilt was made by his mom years ago but she passed away before she was able to finish it.

A lady, Loretta, that goes to church with him found out about it and she finished the top.  Now I have the honors of quilting it for him.

Auburn and all, I love it.

Quilting In Progress.....

My favorite quilts, as I have said many times, are memory quilts.  So many memories, tears and love go into these.

These two quilts belong to a sweet customer.  She recently lost her husband and wanted to give her boys something to treasure from their father.

You can see the fabrics are primarily the same in both both the are very different.

Because she chose different patterns I felt they deserved different quilting designs.

I am sure both the boys will realize how special these are and will treasure them for years to come.

As these were being quilted, I also worked on getting some Tshirts ready for quilting.  Nothing like a good process and assembly line.

These three are cut and boxed (using very good line clearance so we don't have any mix ups).  These are in the process of being cut.

Once they are all cut out I will start the stabilizing process and layout.  These are all being made based on a new Craftsy.com class that I recently watched.  I can't wait to see how they turn out.

Quilting In Progress.... Double Dipping

So this isn't something I get to do often but I try when I can.  Two quilts loaded at the same time with two different designs.

Saves a little time on loading and in this case, saved some dollars for the customer.  I was able to use less batting with not as much waste.  

Love it!  Gotta get busy again!

Yep, it's minky.  I just love quilts with a minky or flannel back.  The quilting shows up beautifully and they are so warm and cuddly.

I say all the time that quilting to me is about memories.  It is such a blessing to be a part of preserving someone else's memories.

This little beauty is started using a child's sheet with coordinating borders framing it out.  I can only imagine a sweet little girl so excited that she got new little mermaid sheets for her bed.  Now she will have that memory as well as the love put into this quilt forever.  ;)

When looking for a quilt design I found this pattern called "Under the Sea".  Sounds perfect doesn't it.

I am so blessed that so many people trust me with their treasures.

Just finished this beautiful quilt from a customer, Sherry Nin!

She does very detailed work and always does a fantastic job!  It is a pleasure to quilt for her.

There is just something about a baby quilt that I love.  This customer quilt is adorable. 

The customer appliqués the letters and the little turtles.  :). Just precious.

Oh I'm back in my happy place.  The holidays were wonderful but got me a little behind, then work for me further behind.  Now here I am, in my quilt room and working on this beautiful customer quilt.

Quilting In Progress...

So I think "Thelma" was upset that I took time off for the holidays and allowed me to complete one row on a quilt before she broke.  Thankful we completed the row and it didn't break in the middle.

So after a week more of downtime, Thelma and I are both happy quilters.

Can you see the detail of the needle and thread?  I love it.

This is a beautiful customer quilt that is fuzzy cut and had sewing notions in all the blocks.  

I love the fuzzy cut blocks and wish I had the patience to do some.

Quilting In Progress...

It was so nice to have a few days off to enjoy my family and the holiday.  I actually went hunting with my husband and not only did I get my first deer, I got a doe and a buck.  Super excited!

Now, the holiday is over and it's back to business.  Today's quilting in progress is from Beverly in Louisville, KY.

We all know we each have different talents.  Not only is Beverly an amazing quilter, she makes beautiful jewelry.

Recognize that quilt block.  Yep, it is my signature block in a custom made necklace and bracelet.  She also made me a beautiful paperweight and keychain.

Today's has been a very busy afternoon. I have this beautiful Ohio Star quilt on the frame....

And this beautiful Dresden Plate tie quilt on my domestic machine...

I have stressed myself of this tie quilt since February.  Yep almost 10 months of worry. :). I think it is turning out beautiful and pray the customer does as well.

I have been so busy quilting that I haven't taken the time to post.  I guess for a business, finish a customer quilt is better time spent than posting pictures. :). Thanks for understanding. 

This little beauty is on the frame and almost finished.

The customer requested clouds and then I noticed the "Aim for the Stars" so I settle on this design...

A perfect compliment.  ;)

Quilting In Progress.... And some recent finishes!

Sometimes you have a design that you are just not sure about.  Then you give it a try and it becomes your new favorite.

This sweet customer quilt is made completely from scraps from her stash.

The quilting design is like a rolling pinwheel and add some great movement to her quilt.

I can wait to try it on one of mine and I have just the one in mind (if I ever get it finished).

Speaking of finishes, I have to baby quilt panels complete for a customer.

She was in a time crunch so we put them both on and quilted like one big quilt. :)

And I finished a tshirt quilt for a customer.

She is a senior executive director for thirty-one and most of these are different conference shirts.

I love some of the sayings, "Everytime I go to work, I end up at a party."  How fun does that sound.

Anyway, been really busy around here.  In addition to all this, I am working on my first tie quilt for a customer and it is being pieces as we speak.  Can't wait to see it all come together.

Quilting in progress.... The good, the bad and the beautiful!

Well I have had a personal project on the frame while I worked on some piecing for two customers.  I was able to do some custom work that most of us are not willing to pay for.  (Honestly, don't know that I would pay the $600+ for the quilting this one would have cost).

Anyway, quilt is about 110" so it is to wide for my setup since I added QBot.  That just means that not only will the quilt have to be turned, it will have to be shifted left and right as well.

This is the back side.  Oh my goodness, look at that texture.  :)

Now the front....

I would say those pictures fall in the "good category".

Now for the bad.... As sooner that quilts for the public, one of my biggest challenges is wonky borders.  I have to say so far, I have not had anything that I couldn't work through and usually my own borders are pretty good.  UNTIL THIS ONE.  This quilt was assembled at different hotels using the desk as my table.  I DID NOT measure my borders prior to sewing and the quilt top was hanging off the table in the floor causing drag when adding the borders.  All of this is a recipe for a wonky border.  And....

Can you say hello because this border is so waving it has to be waving at you.

Now how to we quilt that out?

Terrible.  :) so now I get to decide, do I leave it and let this be our new "whatever" quilt OR do I do what I should have done to star right with and fix the borders. (Which at this point would me I have to reverse quilt them before removing them).

I think I will just take it off the frame and leave it for a little bit and see just how much it bothers me.

Lesson learnt and I would have never attempted these borders had this been a customer quilt but it is good to tackle these challenges so I can better serve my customers.

Quilting in progress....

Today's beautiful quilt is Farm Girl Vintage pattern by Lori Holt.  The top was pieced by a sweet customer who is making this quilt as part of her guilds quilting challenge. 

You can see all the great scrappy use of fabric.

The pattern allows you to make 6" or 12" blocks.  You can even mix and match the two sizes.

Finished with some spiral quilting.  Oh goodness.  I can't wait to get my own finished now.
